Consecutive interpretation means relaying a message from one language into another in a sequential manner after the speaker has completed his or her speech or part of it. The speaker should pause at regular intervals to facilitate the conveyance of his or her statements through the interpreter.  Consecutive interpretation requires the interpreter to listen, comprehend, take notes, render into the target language and reproduce the original speech or message in the target language after the speaker pauses. In consecutive interpretation/translation, beyond a solid grasp of the subject matter, a top-notch interpreter must demonstrate the ability to discern the subtleties of the speaker’s style and communicate the mood and tone of the message.

Consecutive interpretation/translation is typically preferred in cases where there is no need for simultaneous interpretation such as short-time press conferences, and organizations such as seminars, congresses, fairs and business meetings as well as hosting/escorting foreign visitors.
